When to Seek Counselling Help
"One in three Canadians will suffer from an emotional problem in their lives"*
Counselling is a proven and effective way of dealing with issues that are hurtful and are interfering with your ability to enjoy everyday living. While in counselling you work with a skilled professional, in a supportive environment, to resolve current issues and concerns.
Counselling is a suggested option when...
You find that your coping skills are inadequate.
Situations such as a loss, a divorce, a friend's suicide attempt or a personal crisis, may require learning new coping skills.
You need confidential, objective and professional help.
Issues such as addictions, abuse, or unplanned pregnancies may be too intimate to discuss with friends and family. We can provide you with strategies to deal with these issues as well as other helpful resources, such as related support groups.
You've tried to help yourself but the problem still persists.
Self help books, support groups and workshops are invaluable, but there are times when a personal, one-on-one approach is needed. As caring professionals, we will listen to your unique concerns and help you to find the solutions that will work for you.
The length of counselling can vary.
Some people require only a few sessions while others require more intensive counselling that may include psychological assessments or involve others such as a spouse, employer or family members.
